It has been mined from the Himalayan mountains, loaded and transported down the mountain passes on the backs of YAKS, by hard working mountain people.
The distinctive rose pink color is due to a high mineral content: iron, potassium and magnesium, all vital for maintaining health.
Mass produced salt licks are formed bricks or blocks of salt and mineral mixtures. Himalayan rock salt licks are literally ROCKS, this means that horses and ponies are unable to bite chunks off the block, a problem that can occur with the softer formed salt licks.
These licks are also much more weather resistant, which means they can be left outside in the field or pasture. You can hang one from a tree branch.
